This view is in 中山路, Zhōngshān lù. The camera is facing northeastward. Note the statue of 毛主席, Máo zhǔxí, Chairman Mao, in the distance at right. The dark-colored building with the green dome was the 友谊商店, Yǒuyì shāngdiàn, "Friendship Store." These accepted only "Foreign Exchange Certificates" (FEC). The trolleybus at left is signed for service 环, Huán, "Ring." This extended northwestward and southwestward from central Shenyang. A segment in 大南街, Dànán jiē, completed the loop. (Such a line might be called a "circular" in the U.K.; we in the U.S. once used the term "belt line.")
